Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/23/2008

Number: 1

Our first monarch larve is nearly fully grown (we are a bit slow to find larvae this year???!!!) but is dead. We found a few like this last year. Body collapsed, color fading to black, hanging from underside of milkweed leaf by a few strands of slime. We have a digital image of the larvae place on the upper surface of a milkweed leaf, but we do not find how to attach images here. Dead larvae are so disappointing! We hope this is a local phenomenon and not widespread.
