Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/07/2008

Number: 1

Is there record of how the Monarchs fared on their entry to the Midwest this Spring? Were numbers limited from their departure in Mexico or the southern portion of the US? I've not seen record of anybody else along the flyway reporting anything unusual on the website. Perhaps I've missed something. /
/I suspect that somewhere on their journey north they must have met with some natural (or unnatural ) catastrophes because there has been a most significant drop in Monarch sightings, monarch eggs, and caterpillars. So so few ever arrived here in central NW Wisconsin. To challenge the population even more, our spring weather was perfect for breeding every imaginable plant pest this year so the poor monarch caterpillars are being devoured, gotten parasites etc. Perhaps this will illustrate the problems: last year at this time I had rescued eggs, caterpillars and already released over 150 butterflies. This year 8 butterflies released. Currently I have 4 caterpillars and 2 egg
