Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/23/2008

Number: 1

Observed one new female sunning herself in our yard patch.....and one male sunning himself in our back hill patch. I believe them to be newly emerged, and it's possible they will be migrating today. The wind is from the northwest. The air is brisk.
Caterpillar sightings have been bleak. I haven't spotted one for over a week. I just hope other areas are doing better.
I had almost given up on Monarchs migrating from here so this morning's sightings were very exciting.
The goldenrod are beginning to flower on the back hill. Last year we had dozens of Monarchs from Sept 3-8. I will be anxiously watching for the next two weeks to see if we get a repeat this year.
A request: if anyone spots Monarchs clustering in Minnesota or Wisconsin, please let me know.
Successful sighting to you all.
