I think our male hummingbird has disappeared! Cool temperatures moved in yesterday afternoon when a cold front passed. I haven't seen a sign of him all morning. In contrast, all summer he's been perched on a special branch we put near the feeder where he aggressively defends his source of food. He even chases the juveniles away which are perhaps his very own children! Over the past two weeks we've been enchanted by these tiny creatures, with as many as 6 present at one time zooming around like miniature helicopters.
