Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/26/2008

Number: 1

Absolutely beautiful weather the last couple days - mid 70's, light winds and low humidity. Still, no obvious sign of migrators. Have counted 12 to 14 Monarchs each day. Have several regulars - a couple of smallish ones, one big beautiful new one, one frail and very faded one, a middle aged one that likes to bask on a certain plant near the trail and the whirling pair that is always chasing. Watched a Monarch back in the grove inspecting wild apples on the tree and then dropping down to taste fruit the deer had chewed on. Not very good puddling weather for butterflies. Drought conditions just like last year at this time, the Knapweed is at 50%, nearly half done with blooming. Sunset check found no activity around the roost trees.
