Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/26/2008

Number: 1

The hummingbirds seem to be massing. Feeders seldom stay filled 2 days. Their chittering fills the air! I have never seen so many around our house and never ever had to fill the feeders so often. It is very dry around here, so perhaps the flowers aren't putting out enough nectar. I have never seen them battle so, scolding and diving. We are careful on the porch to avoid collisions with them and my Dalmatians go airborne chasing them. They sit like small pugnasty gargoles on the branches of our blue spruce. And take over my clotheslines to threaten any one approaching THEIR feeder! I guess they must be toughening and fattening up for their long journey south?
