Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/28/2008

Number: 1

My sons, ages 4 and 1 are very interested in Monarchs. Everyday we look for them. Today we did not have to look far. We saw about 5-6 fluttering around in the field near our house. They looked like they were feeding. We also found a monarch caterpillar two days ago that we are keeping so that my kids can watch the changes that take place. I would say that this caterpillar is about 2-3 from making its cocoon. When the butterfly emerges we will set it free of course.

Another thing I should note is that our weather here this summer has been very rainy up until this past week. Also, have had more mosquitoes then usual. Its been hard to find any caterpillars or eggs, except for the one found the other day. Last year we did about 12. My oldest son gets so excited every year to do it.
