This afternoon my children and I watched a lone monarch butterfly in our backyard. Initially the butterfly was flitting from one blade of tall grass to another. Eventually it settled on a place it was interested in. After a while it seemed to hover for a long time around a patch of shortly trimmed grass. It would fold its wings together for a while and then gently unfold them once and return to the folded wing stance. It did this for about 5 minutes then took flight and began exploring the taller grass again.
