Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/31/2008

Number: 150

September 3
We are not see very many coming in as the first night. The first night there was five branches with 10 to 12 on them. Now we are seeing 4 or 5 on a branch. During the day we see them flying around from tree to tree, but not as many as years before. I have pictures but dont know how to add them to this site.

August 31

We started seeing monarch several years ago and have watched them come in to roost every year. They come in around 7 pm and fill our trees. They are usually here for about a week. Some years there are more than others. This year seems to be off to a good start. Tonight the trees in the front yard are filling up with monarchs and the branches are heavy with 20 to 30 monarchs on each branch!

Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present. We entered '150' in the number field based on observer’s “the branches are heavy with 20 to 30 monarchs on each branch” (30 X 5 branches = 150).
