Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/03/2008

Number: 500

Three separate roosting groups of Monarch overnighted (9/4) in the yard in a large Red Pine. The day before (the 3rd) there were several groups overnighting in deciduous trees and conifers, in the same yard.

September 11
We still have roosting going on here, and many large numbers feeding on different goldenrods and asters. 6 acre acreage and the entire NW corner of property is full of roosts. I would "guesstimate" in the neighborhood of 400-500 Monarchs.

The pasture (3 acre native pasture) is full of active butterflies this afternoon.
