Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/06/2008

Number: 1

Cold and damp this morning, patches of mist rising over the tawny meadow. The sun is working hard to warm things up from the 49 degrees the thermometer is recording. Quietly, a female hummer checks each of the bright rose hollyhock blossoms for nectar and then moves on to the morning glories. I love the shimmer of light on her feathers and the way they can hover. The trumphet vine blossoms are busy with small glittering bodies that noisily battle over each flower. Will need to fill all the feeders today. Several hummers sit on the clothesline mingled with the wash, they sure love that spot!
