Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/10/2008

Number: 50

Located at Corron Farm, an 1834 farm where the prairie and savanna are being restored. The monarchs nectar on the native plants as well as large areas of red clover which they especially love. They spend nearly every night in the oaks of the savanna and in the woodland edge of one meadow, generally each butterfly singly. On the 10th there were numerous small groups high in the Oaks. The nights have been especially cool this week getting as low as the mid 40s.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 50 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “ numerous small groups high in the Oaks.”
