Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/09/2008

Number: 1

The hummers have sucked two of my feeders dry again since Saturday. Small fierce tustles are happening all around the gardens and trumphet vine. Three of them sit side by side on the west clothesline, chittering a conversation. I warn my incoming art students about head on collisions as they come up on the porch into the battle zone. They head down to the basement as I fill feeders with microwave Hummer Fuel: 2 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar. Heat at full power 1 minute, stir and reheat 1 more minute. Add 2 cups of ice cubes, stir till melted and serve. On the sunflower outside of the kitchen window; a small watcher waits for flight fuel as I stir the ice.
