Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/10/2008

Number: 1

It has been very cool in the mornings up here in Haliburton. Three Celsius this morning, only two yesterday. Luckily, even though it was predicted, we haven't had frost yet.

I still have three chrysalides from tiny caterpillars I found in mid to late August. One will emerge today, the other two not for about a week. I also saw a monarch mud puddling in the gravel parking lot at The Wigamog Inn yesterday (9/10) while at work. So, there are still some around this far north, as well as my three which will hopefully join the migration later.

Also, I have a lone ruby throated hummingbird frequenting my feeders. This is the latest I've ever still had one around. I don't usually see any after Labour Day.
