Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/11/2008

Number: 1

After Wednesday's total absence and quiet without hummingbirds, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear a light wingbeat and see a tiny female quivering on the window feeder on the kitchen window. She is very nervous and quite timid. The slightest noise sends her to hide in the tall multi-headed sunflower that grew from the birdfeeder leftovers. It takes quite a while for her to feed due to her quick dives to hide. Later, I notice her at the feeder by the front window. Perhaps she is a chick from this year? She makes not a sound, apparently feeling a bit alone and exposed. Hopefully, she will find her way south without encountering the hurricane.
