Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/17/2008

Number: 1

On the 15th, I counted 14 Monarchs in 15 minutes; today it was 27 in 15 minutes. But as I was writing this, a friend called to say that as I was absent from the beach, she had counted them for me and she got 25 in 5 minutes (at 5:00 pm). All mine were flying due west along the northern shore of Lake Ontario, some in groupings of 4 or 5. Some groupings had a lot of 'interaction' amoung the individuals.

This was not a good summer for Monarch sightings but this week has shown that they have bred quite successfully when they were here.
