Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/14/2008

Number: 1

I found my Chrysalis on Mon., 09/08/2008 on a branch I had cut out
back. Brought a small piece inside and placed it in my sun tea jar.
I was scared to near death on Sat., 09/13/08 as the chrysalis had
turned BLACK :( I thought it had died. Just happened to look Sunday
morning, 09/14/08, and behold, there was a gorgeous Monarch
Butterfly, slowly flapping her wings. I know it's a female because
of the identification marks present on the males lower set of
wings. I wanted to keep her inside until Mon as it was overcast,
cold and horribly windy. But she wasn't happy in the glass jar ~
kept slipping. I took her out back where there is a large stand of
phlox and placed her on flowers closest to the ground. I went back
out Mon., 0915/08 and she was gone, I hope & pray, happily on her
way to Mexico. Have seen others still, maybe 3-6 per day, now down
to maybe 2/day. The weather this week in Iowa is gorgeous and I
would think prime for any lingering jewels to make
