Found a single monarch along shore of Unity Pond at 0900 hours. The wings were wet and waterstained. The insect was barely able to hold to our fingers when lifted for observation. Perhaps this is yet another butterfly that did not quite survive the 2 km crossing of the lake and only dragged itself from the cool water in the night. We left the monarch to dry and to warm on lakeshore vegetation and then perhaps to continue its passage south westward.
