Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/20/2008

Number: 200

Hundreds of monarchs are roosting and nectaring at natural way stations in southeastern Chase County (about 10 miles from Matfield Green) today (9/21) and yesterday. These are way stations they use every year at about this time, a mix of hackberry and hedge trees near abundant roadside nectar sources.

What an amazing sight!

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
