Signs of Fall

Date: 09/28/2008

Number: 1

Driving East on 98 through Florida we spotted a "butterfly stream" following the coastline for miles and miles. Pulled over at Carrabelle Beach where hundred's of them appeared to be "resting" in the grass.

Editor's note: The Gulf fritillary, a monarch look-a-like, is one of several migratory species in the Southeast. As fall approaches, adults begin a mass southward migration eventually arriving in South Florida to overwinter.
