Signs of Fall

Date: 09/28/2008

Number: 1

We were driving east from Apalachicola, FL along the coast to Carrabelle, FL on Hwy 98 at approximately noon. We saw monarchs flying west for almost that entire distance.

Editor's note: The Gulf fritillary, a monarch look-a-like, is one of several migratory species in the Southeast. As fall approaches, adults begin a mass southward migration eventually arriving in South Florida to overwinter.
