Signs of Fall

Date: 09/26/2008

Number: 1

While hanging out on Hilton Head Island this weekend, I went to Harbortown and counted approprimately 24 butterflies in a five minute period. They were everywhere! Even at the house where we stayed, we saw many Gulf fritillary.

Editor's note: The Gulf fritillary, a monarch look-a-like, is one of several migratory species in the Southeast. As fall approaches, adults begin a mass southward migration eventually arriving in South Florida to overwinter.
