Signs of Fall

Date: 09/28/2008

Number: 1

We were driving across the bridge and we were bombarded by butterflies. We were on a motorcycle and tired to dodge them as best we could. There was a car in front of us, and I was very saddened to see some roll off onto the side of the bridge.... A doomed flight.... Once we crossed over the bridge, there were very few.... it seemed as if they were ALL on the bridge.

Editor's note: The Gulf fritillary, a monarch look-a-like, is one of several migratory species in the Southeast. As fall approaches, adults begin a mass southward migration eventually arriving in South Florida to overwinter.
