Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/30/2008

Number: 1

This morning between 10:55 AM and 11:25 AM I walked the Long Beach barrier beach in Stratford and, in a distance of about 1 mile and counted 126 Monarchs. They were nectaring on Seaside Goldenrod as they slowly moved along. I was careful not to double count. The air was almost still and the temperature was in the low 60's with mostly cloudy skies.
There were several women with a group of young children there and they were netting and banding Monarchs. I don't know who they were affiliated with.
