I went out this afternoon for a few hours of photography at Lexington WMA and to watch the Monarchs. Hundreds of Monarchs were dropping out of the sky and tanking up on nectar at around 4-5 PM. They were mostly
on aster and a few on goldenrod. After 5 PM, most were observed
flying south, some at eye level and a few way up and barely visible.
The higher they were, the faster and straighter they flew more than
likely aided by the wind.
