Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/04/2008

Number: 1

We were exhibiting butterflies (cats & chrysalids) at the Duke Power Wold of Energy Sat (10/4). One of our monarch chrysalids emerged during the event. We caught and tagged 4 more for Monarch Watch. 2 got away from me. Big family day (Hunting & Fishing/outdoor activities) for families. Weather was sunny, about 80 degrees with a very slight breeze. Sighted several other monarchs in their butterfly garden behind the building.
The lake formed by Duke Power for the nuclear power station was part of the Keowee River which used to be a natural fly-way for the monarchs. Therefore, there are still many found in this area.
