Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/05/2008

Number: 200

200+ Monarchs roosting in my trees, and nectaring on crownbeard NW of KIngfisher. A neighbor told me about them. Said that she didn't have any in her backyard, that the Monarchs were all in my yard! I had neglected to mow the weeds. A butterfly gardening friend later told me that the weeds were crownbeard, an important nectar source for the migrating Monarchs. I'm glad that I didn't mow them down. I will remember to leave them from now on for the Monarchs.
