Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/04/2008

Number: 50

I was in West Texas this weekend (Hext) and the monarchs had arrived! Not in huge numbers, but was able to tag 50 of them that weren't too high in the trees. They seemed to stay in the cedar elms and live oaks in the San Saba river bottom all weekend - probably because the winds were very strong and straight out of the south. All of them were very healthy and strong - no tattered wings at all.
Next weekend should be great with the arrival of a cold front.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 50 monarchs based on observer’s note of having tagged 50.
