Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/21/2008

Number: 1

We were fishing on Lake Erie approximately 7 miles out from Beaver Creek. There was a Northeast wind of 10-15 mph. Around 11:00 AM I looked up and noticed a Monarch riding the wind. I continued to pay attention and over a period of a few hours saw almost 200 Monarchs migrate through. They were flying anywhere from 10-80 feet above the lake. They flapped a few times then would glide for 20 or more yards. A few seemed to be playing in the wind, gliding then doing a 360 then continuing on in the original direction.
