Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/08/2008

Number: 1

During a 1 hour period from 9:45am to 10:45am I saw 68 Monarchs. I saw the first 26 within the first 15 minutes during a drive home. The remainder were seen in my neighborhood. Most were seen in singles but in some areas there were as many as 5 or 6 at a time. The majority of the Monarchs were seen in flight moving south to southwest. Some were seen nectaring on wildflowers in the Aster family. The weather was sunny with clear skies and little to no wind. Temperatures were in the low 70s.
