Signs of Fall

Date: 10/08/2008

Number: 1

Blackgum trees are fully red, maroon and scarlet now in the understory of the woods here--my ruby throated hummingbirds have all gone south. I had my first day seeing multiple Monarch butterflies going south--25 total. I live along the east bank of the Potomac River on Mathias Point in King George Co. Virginia(the head of the Northern Neck of Virginia.) I get to see Bald Eagles either flying or fishing in the river here most days. The eagles migrate south in the fall so the ones I see in winter are not the ones I see in the spring and summer.
