We had about 300 monarchs fly into our backyard yesterday afternoon around 6:00. We have never had more than 4 or 5 at one time. We had no monarchs in the spring so it was a joy to see so many here. They are roosting on crepe myrtle trees and are still here at 1:00 in the afternoon. They are not trying to drink or eat nectar from my many butterfly plants. Are they OK?

Yesterday afternoon (Oct. 9) hundreds of butterflies flew into our backyard. They roosted all night on branches of crepe myrtle trees. We have had only 4-5 monarchs in the past during the fall migration. It is 1:00 in the afternoon and they are beginning to stir. We had no monarchs in the spring so this is an awe inspiring sight.

The monarchs that flew into my backyard on Thursday (10-9) are still here. I estimate that there are 1000 roosting on crepe myrtle and bamboo. I have been told they are waiting for a north wind. They don't eat or drink and I am worried about them.
