Tonight (Oct. 9) my husband told me he could see Monarchs roosting in the pecan trees on Pinto Farm which is on Pinto Creek outside of Brackettville, Tx.

This morning (Oct. 10) I went out to see for myself, and sure enough, there were Monarchs in the pecan trees on Pinto Creek! I saw hundreds, not clouds of them though. There were clumps of them here and there in the trees. They didn't seem much interested in the flowers like all the butterflies this morning--although a few were coming down to them. I wonder if it wasn't the gusty wind this morning keeping them up in the trees instead of on the flowers.

This is the second day in a row that I went out along Pinto Creek just outside of Brackettville, Texas looking for Monarchs. The Monarchs were much more plentiful today and spread out along a longer stretch of the creek. There weren't hordes of them, but there were certainly hundreds more than I could possibly count. They were clumping in the Pecan trees as well as in the Mountain Laurel and the Oaks. They were in the flowers much more today than yesterday, although it was gusty today and they seemed to prefer to stay in the trees for the most part.
Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
