Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/09/2008

Number: 200

I've been having hundreds of monarch butterflies on my live oak and other trees in the evenings. They have lingered into the morning if the day was cloudy as it was Sunday, Oct 12. They have been present from Oct. 9 through Oct 12 each evening. The largest number so far was on Oct. 12 when the tips of branches and hanging grape vines were covered with large clusters of butterflies. They seem to like my yard as I've had this happen several years since I moved to this location. My home is located on a wooded 4 acre lot in a relatively open low area surrounded by hills. They are magnificent to see!

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
