Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/15/2008

Number: 1

Was just outside at 5pm, it has been raining lightly all day but has recently stopped. Very overcast but the sky is full of monarchs heading south. Very cool. There were at least 40 visible at any given moment. I was scanning the sky in all directions and you could see them very high up and then some were flying as low as 10 ft. I stayed outside for about 15 minutes and it was just a steady stream. There were a great deal of birds flying around as well and I was hoping it wasnt going to be a feeding opportunity for them, but I never saw a bird actually go after any of them. Frisco is about 20 miles due north of Dallas for a geographic perspective.
