Thought you might like to see these photos. They were taken along Williams Creek where it joins the Pedernales River. The monarchs were roosting in various areas along the creek, mostly in Hackberry and Pecan trees. I have witnessed roosting before, but in isolated groups. The roostings along the creek were numerous and quite impressive.
Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present, although the roost appears to have been large. After viewing the images, we estimate the number of butterflies as 3,000. (We estimated 300 butterflies in pictures #1 & #2. Since the roosts were "numerous and quite impressive" we are estimating 10 roosts at 300 butterflies each, so 3,000 monarchs. We are marking this record as a JN staff estimate.
