Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/10/2008

Number: 200

We arrived at our country home Friday evening and turned on the back porch light to check out the yard to make sure everything was ok. Later that evening, while in the house I noticed fluttering on the porch and thought it might be small bats, to my surprise they were monarch butterflies. The next two days we saw hundreds of monarchs roosting in the trees. I have never observed such a beautiful sight.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
