My fifth grade class in Carrollton, Texas was at recess on Friday, October 17, 2008, and saw a mass of around 250-300 monarchs migrating at 1:15 p.m.
The monarchs were flying due south in a huge group with a few "outliers" that were closer to the ground. The first student who saw the monarchs was on top of the playground equipment and immediately yelled to alert his classmates about the butterflies. The rest of the class was able to observe this magnificent sight, and then recorded the experience in their science notebook.
