We continue to have 1 to 5 Monarchs in the garden at one time. The butterfly weed was all stripped of leaves so we brought home another plant we purchased up the coast. The Monarchs and painted ladies land on it but we do not see new caperillers. I went to Cuyamacha Jr. College to try to buy some more of the weed and saw 2 Monarchs in the plant area. They have 2 pupae that have turned into Monarchs in the last couple of days. Several people in the neighborhood (within 4 miles) also have Monarchs in their yards. (All of us have planted butterfly weed.)
When will the Monarch move on? Their behavior changes with winds, light or heavy. If any one wants to have a really exciting experience plant butterfly weed. The Monarchs really do come when you plant it.
We placed 3 large monarch caterpillers and butterfly weed in our small butterfly house. Today we released our last Monarch butterfly. It was a wonderful experience. We also had a black swallowtail cateriller that we were
