Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/21/2008

Number: 1

I noticed several butterflies roosting in a flowering bush in our yard last night just before sunset. Today there are many butterflies on the same bush. They have been gathering nectar throughout the day.

October 23
For the previous 3 days and nights, we have seen many Monarchs (and a few Queens) sipping nectar and roosting on this bush . A cold front came through last night (10/22) and today, I have only see a few Queen butterflies on the bush. Evidently, the Monarchs have moved on.

Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present. We entered 'one' in the number field only to mark this record for future consideration.
