Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/30/2008

Number: 1

Samspon Elementary and Copeland Elementary 3rd graders noticed a big increase in the number of Monarchs in the garden this week! Monarchs were especially busy drinking nectar allowing us to sneak up and tag rather easily. We observed a mixture of very large Monarchs in great shape, some with tattered wings, and others very faded.
We tagged at both schools more this week than any other.
Today was a record high with 8 Monarchs in the butterfly garden at once. They came and left all day long in waves each group of butterflies seemed to only stay for 15 minutes or so then move on. 10-15 minutes of quiet then another group would move in.
