Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 11/08/2008

Number: 1

On 8 November 2008 we have sighted a mature Common Loon cruising and fishing on the Middle Fork of the Clark Fork River one mile east of the confluence of the river and Lake PendOreille,in northeastern Idaho.Ther was just a single bird...no mate observed...and the bird was in winter plumage. This seems to be a very late sighting this far north, and I am wondering if there might be a mating pair in the area, even though no reports are available for this.We do have the right shoreline with level approaches and lots of tall grass and rushes. We were drawn to the presence of the bird by a very short segment of call. This was in the AM about0900PST.
