I believe this is unusual. I just spotted a monarch caterpillar on an ailanthus seedling next to my milkweed (curavassavica I believe)! It is about 1 inch long. Could it about a week old? It is now munching on the milkweed. Is this the normal time of year for caterpillars or is this due to our very mild weather and climate? Will this caterpillar be able to survive to make the transformation into butterfly? Wow!
