Signs of Fall

Date: 11/13/2008

Number: 1

We have had several bad frosts. Only a sturdy few flowers remain in protected areas. The last rose of summer is in our school courtyard. It is a yellow tea rose. One low to the ground dandelion was found on the path to the school playground. The leaves are down and leaf piles are all over town waiting for the vacuum truck to scoop them up, unless the children get to them first with their jumping right in. No more cricket sounds at all. A flock of starlings flying in unison entertained students at recess. The air is crisp and smells of wood burning in fireplaces and stoves in the evenings.
