Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/12/2008

Number: 1

This morning I saw a bright monarch nectaring on some tiny white flowers in our yard. He seemed very thirsty and allowed me to get very close. It was around 10am, sunny, and about 85 degrees F. I am hoping that this beautiful butterfly filled up with nectar and found a way to make it through the rough weather that was just about to descend when he made his visit.

Early the next morning at 5am, Sept.13, Hurricane Ike came roaring through with 70mph sustained winds, gusts of over 80mph. We lost 4 tall established trees and many large branches on others. The main force of the storm lasted 6 hours and left us without power for 2 weeks. Could the monarchs have sheltered and made it through?
