Symbolic Monarchs (Sent)

Date: 12/15/2008

I am a science instructor for an after school program that we offer here at the VA Living Museum which highlights the plants and animals found in Virginia. With my students, we learned about the lifecycle of the monarchs by observing their chrysilids and seeing them emerge. At our museum this year, Judy Molnar(another science instructor who is very involved in the monarchs cause) was in charge of our Monarch hutch and had about thirty monarchs, that she tagged and released. It was a low year for the total number of monarchs that we could find in our area.
The eight students who participated in drawing the butterflys are in 2nd grade and come to our museum for the enrichment classes that we offer that meet once a week for five weeks. On the back of our butterflies we wrote the following infromation:
My name is _______. I am ___ years old. I live in the state of Virginia. Thank you for taking care of the monarchs this winter, from your northern nieghtbors.
Mi nombre es _______. Tengo ___. Vivo en el estado/la provincial de Virginia. Gracias po cuidar a las mariposas este invierno, de parte de sus vecinos del norte.
