Symbolic Monarchs (Sent)

Date: 12/15/2008

Number: 1

This is our first year of participating in this symbolic journey and we did it under the guidance of a parent volunteer, Rosalee Pfister, who came into our class and did a science lesson about the monarch lifecycle and their incredible migration. Our students really enjoyed coloring thier butterflys and they look forward to the spring when they can go into the school's garden to look for signs of the monarchs on the milkweed plants we have growing. They also can't wait to see what comes back in the spring from the children in Mexico!
My class sent 18 butterflys and on the back the message was:
My name is ________. I am ____ years old. I live in the state of Virginia, U.S.A. The name of my school is Riverside Elementary. I am in the 2nd grade. Please take care of this butterfly during the long, cold northern winter. Thank you!
