We have proudly ripped up half of our yard's lawn (we own almost half an acre in town) and replaced that monoculture with nectar bearing flowers, trees and berry producing bushes and a 15'pond with a year round waterfall. The yard has been certified by NWF and Washington Dept of Wildlife. It provides food, shelter, water and a place for birds to raise young. We have spotted over 80 species of birds and have had visits from a racoon, a rabbit, and a squirrel,(rare on the east side of the Cascades) the pond also serves as a home to frogs and lots of dragon flies. We have even spotted spadefoot toads. Not bad for living within the city limits. All the effort has paid off with wonderful views and visits from many of Mother Natures creatures.
