Around 9:00 A.M. on January 12, 2009, saw maybe 25 birds in the trees in the backyard and on the snow in the cul-de-sac beyond the backyard. Identified about 6 or 7 as robins. There were other species mixed in - think I saw one chickadee and what I believe was a Northern Flicker pecking around the bark of one of the trees (have seen one in the neighborhood the last few springs). Sky was cloudy, but rather bright, as was the reflecting snow cover, so it was hard to identify most of the birds. Several robins eventually landed on top of the nearby bushes along the side of the house, to scoop up some of the berries that remain there year-round. These were clearly identifiable. Heard a bit of chirping as well. All the birds were quite active - constantly moving.
