Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/09/2009

Number: 1

A flock of about 100 Robins have been spotted around our educational center at Rock Bottom Ranch. As we snowshoe the area we noticed that one or two fell prey to an owl or other flying predator. We have been getting concerned reports from around Basalt that the robins have been spotted in town. The temperature here has been averaging high 30's to mid 40's for the past week. Last year we had a bumper crop of berries in the forests and many dried ones still cling to the branches. We suspect that the mild weather and bumper berry crop has encouraged an early arrival of the robin.
